Welcome to Petts Wood East Pre-School

Our Pre-School was established in 2001 and was renamed as Petts Wood East Pre-School.  It is one of the oldest Pre-Schools in the village, established over 50 years ago.  It was taken over by Kathy Hardy, whose background is in Paediatric Nursing, but now dedicates her time to working with children, as a qualified Early Years Teacher.  We are pleased to announce the achievement of our ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement.  This was awarded under the new revised, Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF) which came into force in September 2019.  We also have a sister Pre-School, Southborough Pre-School, which is located on the Southborough Primary School site.  We continue to strive to maintain a high quality care and education in both of our settings. We are proud that both settings have achieved the Millie's Mark Accreditation.

Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) is an awards scheme funded by the Mayor of London, which supports and recognises achievements in child health, wellbeing and education in early years settings.  HEYL complements and enhances the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage framework, adding to the focus on children, families and staff health and wellbeing.

In December 2018, we completed the Healthy Early Years London Bronze Award, proving that we promote a healthy lifestyle for our children in the setting. We are extremely proud of our achievement.  Sarah and Debra attended an Awards presentation held by Bromley to collect our official certificate.

What is Millie's Mark?

Millie's Mark is awarded as a special endorsement to childcare providers that go above and beyond the minimum requirements by having 100% of staff trained in paediatric first aid, and also ensuring that everything learned during the course is kept alive and in the forefront of practitioners’ minds so that they are confident, ready and capable.  (The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidelines, which childcare settings in England are required to follow, currently state that just one person with a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present or on outings.)  When the setting gains the Millie's Mark accreditation, you provide reassurance for your parents that all childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.  It acknowledges that children’s safety is at the forefront of your mind when you care for children.

We are very pleased to inform you that our efforts have been rewarded and that we achieved this very special accreditation on the 22nd March 2021.  This has been awarded by National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) in association with Department for Education and Millie’s Trust.  All staff at the setting are fully first aid trained.  This special achievement shows how serious we are about ensuring your children are safe when they are in our care.

Although we are now an official Millie’s Mark awarded nursery, our hard work of continuously developing our quality care and education will not stop.  It is crucial that we maintain the criteria over its three years lifespan before re-assessment.

To all the lovely teachers at Petts Wood East Preschool. It has been a wonderful journey for my child D being in this great Pre-School. Since she met you all at 2 and a half years old, you are like a family to her. All the paintings and art work she did at Pre-School are absolutely priceless and are all treasured. Thank you to all of the teachers for being so lovely, so caring and having so much compassion, which helped my child flourish. Not just to my child, but to all the other children, for providing a fun and a very good educational foundation, which will help them for their bright future. I feel so lucky for my child having been with such experienced teachers. I am definitely going to miss you all. It takes a big heart to shape little minds and you all did it with lots of love, care and hard work. Very thankful to everyone from the bottom of my heart.
